What Tiny does to gutters

Tiny gutters collect something most of the county’s don’t: sand. The prevailing westerlies come off Georgian Bay carrying fine beach sand, and it settles into the troughs along the shore roads and works its way down into the downspout elbows. It doesn’t rot down and wash through the way leaves do — it just packs, and it gives every needle and bit of shingle grit that lands after it something to bind to.

Then there’s the white pine and cedar that make the beach roads what they are. Pine sheds year-round rather than in one October window, and the needles are thin and waxy enough to slip through screens that would stop a leaf. Landing on a bed of sand, they mat into something closer to felt than debris — and the whole business is invisible from the driveway. Inland around Perkinsfield and Wyevale it flips to hardwood and field dust: a heavier drop, but at least it’s one drop a year, not a constant shed.

The seasonal places have the hard version of the problem. A cottage closed up in October and opened in May packs a full winter into its runs with nobody there to see it, and the first anyone knows about it is a soft fascia board or a wet corner at opening.

Tiny tip: sand is why a Tiny gutter can be blocked without ever looking full. It sits low and flat in the trough and heads straight for the downspout elbow, so the run looks fine from a ladder while the outlet is packed solid. Scooping won’t find it — the outlet itself has to be checked, not just looked at from above.

Near pine and blowing sand, expect less: both are fine enough to get through, and a guard mainly means the eventual clearing takes longer because it has to come off first.
