What Severn does to glass
Severn is water on three sides of everything — Couchiching’s west shore, the Green and Black Rivers meeting at Washago, Sparrow Lake, and the Gloucester Pool end of the Trent–Severn at Port Severn. Humidity comes off all of it, and glass holds it as a fine film that builds so slowly you stop seeing it, until one pane gets cleaned and the rest suddenly look grey.
Then there’s the wildlife side of waterfront living. Lake bugs swarm the lit windows on summer evenings and leave speckling behind; spiders work the corners and frames all season. On places along Cumberland Beach and the West Shore, the lake-facing glass goes grubby a full season ahead of the road side — same house, same year, completely different windows.
The township’s pines cause the third problem. Shade and needle litter mean pollen in spring and sap in summer, both of which bake onto hot glass and stop being a wipe-off job. That’s ordinary here, not a sign anything’s wrong.

How we clean windows in Severn
